Wildcat switchmen strike spreads to major cities

A sickout by switchmen halts thousands of freight cars across at least seven cities including Chicago Philadelphia Detroit Washington St Louis Milwaukee and Peoria. About 15 railroads are affected as the union blames railroads for provoking the walkouts and delaying war goods for Korea.

Poison Pens and a World Disarmament Campaign

Yanks Begin Push in Central Korea

U S Ninth Corps troops opened a cautious general advance at dawn in central Korea with no immediate resistance reported. IS war correspondent Robert Schakne said fighters counted many Communists dead in one area, part of a defense against a Red attack. Seventh Fleet ships, led by Missouri, pounded North Korea’s east coast for a second straight day.

U S Resolution Approved 44 to 7

The United Nations Political Committee labelled Red Ching guilty of aggression in Korea and sent the American resolution to the General Assembly for final ratification by a roll call vote of 44 to 7 with eight abstentions. The Soviet bloc India and Burma voted against. abstentions included Afghanistan Egypt Indonesia Pakistan Sweden Syria Yemen and Yugoslavia. Saudi Arabia did not participate.
