Chinese POWs sign blood petitions in Korea camp

More than 12,000 of nearly 17,000 Chinese prisoners at Allied prison camp No 1 on Koje Island signed blood petitions saying they would rather die than return to Communist China. At least 3,000 tattooed anti Communist slogans, tensions rise between Communist and anti Communist factions, with flags of United States and Chinese Nationalists visible throughout the camp.

Five survive as B 17 rescue plane crashes near Tyler Peak

Port Angeles report says five of eight crewmen were rescued alive from the burned wreckage of a U S Air Force B 17 after it hit a snow covered mountain while searching for victims of a DC 4 air lift crash en route to McChord. Three crew members remained missing. Coast Guard helicopter conducted three trips in dangerous weather to evacuate survivors to Sequim and Port Angeles hospitals.
