Alamitos Bay Marina recreation plan set for hearing
Public hearing at 2 p m January 14 in the City Council chamber will review a 16 727 925 recreation program headed by Alamitos Bay Marina and a list of park and shoreline projects. The marina estimate is 10 134 300 with land acquisitions and park improvements totaling 6 593 625. Proposals include 560 acres east of the San Gabriel River and 260 acres in the Dominguez area for regional park and industrial buffer, plus numerous park renovations and additions under the Planning Recreation and Park Commissions. Authorities claim the harbor will cover costs and yield 613 000 annually in gross rentals, offset by maintenance costs.

Fiery Air Tragedy Fatal to LA.
A four motored Flying Tiger DC4 crashed into Squak Mountain near Issaquah Washington during a rainstorm on a routine landing. Seven aboard were killed including three crew members a stewardess and two passengers. The crash site lay in the foothills of the Cascade mountains fifteen miles southeast of Seattle. Witnesses reported a flames in the air and a massive explosion as the plane struck the mountain and rolled into a valley. Deputies and state patrol searched amid intense heat as wreckage strewn over a quarter mile. A southeastern Idaho couple saw three red flares east of Bear Lake Wednesday night. Sheriff and a 10-man jeep patrol searched the area near Bear Lake Hot Springs for a missing Army chartered Dixie Special transport plane. The plane carried 37 homeward bound Korean War veterans and a crew of three from Seattle to Fort Jackson, South Carolina, last reported over Malad, Idaho. The crew and passengers arrived in Seattle aboard the Marine Adder with 3169 Far East veterans.
