River Defense Called Fine by Ridgway

Allied troops were pulled south of the Seoul Inchon line as port personnel boarded ships under a heavy naval barrage against Reds at Inchon. Lt Gen Matthew Ridgway, commander of Eighth Army, said everything is going fine. Chinese forces reportedly streamed toward the Chuncheon to Napyong highway while North Koreans advanced a spearhead 43 miles below the 38th parallel.

General Eisenhower asserted that men drafted or serving involuntarily should receive little pay as they fulfill a state obligation. President Truman at a news conference stated it would be improper to attack Manchuria or Chinese areas without UN authorization and would require a congressional declaration of war since U.S. actions are as a UN agent. He argued this clarifies why American troops face aggression and retreat.

Shipyard Employment Office to Be Set Up Near Long Beach

Wilder C. Duke, commandant of the 7th Naval District, announced an employment office for Ter minal Island Naval Shipyard will be set up in the near future in the Long Beach area.
