Adlai E Stevenson urged Democrats in Los Angeles not to prod the Eisenhower administration toward quick miracles in Korea. He warned against division and urged unity during a round the world trip stop. He spoke at a Jefferson Jackson day dinner where guests paid 100 a plate for brisket and cabbage banquet.
Adlai E. Stevenson emerged from a Western Democratic leaders meeting in Los Angeles with an upbeat assessment that Democrats can reassert leadership. He spoke to national committee members and 11 Western state chairmen, calling the gathering a heartwarming session and urging truth over easy solutions amid perilous times.
A 12 year old Lakewood boy named James Mabee suffered a possible fractured jaw after a beating by three teenage youths near the Girl Scout Building at Bellflower Boulevard and Carson Street. He told Norwalk sheriff's deputies the attackers were about 16 years old and provided a description of the incident.
Mrs. Fran cis Conant Thorpe, 41, was convicted of manslaughter in the Thanksgiving Day shooting of her husband Herman Thorpe, 52, at their Seal Beach home. Sentencing set for March 6. potential prison term one to ten years.

A shore patrol chief narrowly avoided losing his paddy wagon when Engineman 3/c Thomas A Bodnar, 21, climbed in and drove off from Sciots Hall on Sixth Street. Police later stopped the erratic vehicle and brought Bodnar to the chief petty officer, who remained agitated.
Ralph Rodrigue, 34, paid 25 for a newspaper on Thursday. He told Municipal Judge John J. McMahon he accidentally placed a penny instead of a dime into the newspaper coin box. The judge did not believe the account.
