U S Destroyer Shelton Damaged Near Korea Coast

The destroyer Shelton took three direct shell hits during a patrol near Yangdong Songjin. Three crew were hospitalized in serious condition. Shelton returned to Japan for repairs. Two other US destroyers sustained minor damage. the Rowan and Henderson suffered nonfatal injuries without casualties.

Divorce Final for Linda Darnell in Mollywood

Film star Linda Darnell's divorce from cameraman Peverett Marley was finalized today in Mollywood. She had secured an interlocutory decree February 19 on cruelty charges alleging Marley insulted her friends and family. It was both of their first marriage for Darnell and Marley's third.

Twenty eighth AFL queens contest at Memorial Stadium

Twenty eight contestants representing AFL unions competed at the Spring fair of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Central Labor Council. The prettiest queen will judge eligibility for World Mass and Memorial Stadium event to aid the Exceptional Children’s Foundation. Thief Steals Mail Truck in Berkeley Area

A mail truck belonging to Keith O Enno was stolen while parked at 820 EB Third St in Berkeley. The unlocked vehicle bore no visible mail signs and may have contained undelivered mail. Police are investigating. A strong quake occurred south of Berkeley, with tremors felt today.

Quick Action at Mass Rally on Lakewood Annexation

Residents of Lakewood Plaza near Long Beach voted to begin immediate annexation proceedings, after a two hour meeting at Lakewood Junior High School. Lakewood Plaza Civic Improvement Assn organized the session with about 100 residents listening to Long Beach and Lakewood leaders.

Allied halt Chinese attack in Korea amid severe weather

In Astern Korea on February 26 Allied forces repelled a Chinese Communist assault against a forward post, driven back by heavy artillery. Severe winter conditions limited operations and air sorties to about 280 while snow drifts and drifting glare hindered mobility and visibility along the Muniung ni Valley.

Allies Reject Protest Over Koje Riots at Panmunjom

Allies replied to a Communist protest from February 23 about riots at the Koje civilian camp. Rioting killed 73 internees and an American soldier. The Allied note offered 12 hour readiness to exchange more information on prisoners of war. Reds accused the U.N. of withholding data on 44,000 POWs.
