The State Chamber of Commerce predicted a busy weekend as clear skies return after a fresh powder snowfall from Yosemite north. The winter sports committee notes excellent skiing conditions this winter and a holiday schedule attracting thousands of snow enthusiasts to mountain resorts.
The body of Consuela Mary Louise De LaPena, 3 1/2 years old, was found beside a bulldog owned by Army officer C. E. Tucker in Killeen Texas. The child, last seen three hours earlier taking a Valentine to a playmate, died after being bitten by the dog while the family awaited police investigation.
Oakland report says Miss Marguerite MacLean, superintendent of nurses, and 30 staff members resigned in protest over a severe nurse shortage caused by county policies. Nurses will stay on duty until replacements arrive. not a strike. Some patients reportedly waited up to 18 hours for treatment.
