Nationwide Oil Strike Threat Looms Over Nation

An oil industry spokesman warned that a potential strike would halt transportation and leave motorists stranded within days. O A Knight, president of the Oil Workers International Union CIO, said a committee will set a strike deadline unless settlements are reached. The CIO led a broad drive by 22 unions for a general pay increase, with vote tallies coming from about half of 30 bargaining units reported so far.
