Irvine Co. sale ban kept by Santa Ana court ruling
Judge Claude M. Owens refused to modify the order barring the Irvine Co. sale to Mobil Oil Co. pending a hearing. He noted the minority stockholders consent to Mobil’s bid did not create a material change in circumstances and urged the Irvine Foundation trustees to seek other bids for the Orange County ranch empire, largest local taxpayer with a 312 million tax bill this year. Joan Irvine Smith, Irvine founder James E. Irvine’s granddaughter with 22 percent of stock, objects to Mobil’s stock exchange valuation of 25 dollars per share and has pressed other minority holders to buy-in.
