Sloan Kettering Laetrile study sparks renewed cancer debate
A 1973 Sloan Kettering report by Dr. Kana Matsu Sugiura leaked to the press claimed Laetrile reduced metastasis to the lungs in a breast cancer mouse model and slowed tumor growth. The preliminary finding showed 17 percent metastasis in treated mice versus 78 percent in untreated controls, but later tests did not corroborate the initial results.

Laetrile tests show no cancer benefits, Sloan-Kettering notes
Health official Bogumill explains that early Laetrile results were not reproducible and subsequent animal tests found no cancer benefit. Federal reviews of 1963 and later cases also showed no benefit, with Laetrile banned for cancer in California and illegal in any form under food or drug regulations.
