Brown outlines plan to save California redwoods
Sacramento report says Interior Secretary Udall will submit a two to three week plan for Brown and the National Park Service evaluation. A 30 million dollar national park proposal would cover Prairie Creek Redwood State Park and an 41,000 acre park could take over private timberlands with funding from a possible Congress bill. Brown noted only 15 percent of virgin coastal redwoods remain in state hands and warned private lands could lose remaining trees by 2040. A freeway proposal near a redwood stand sparked the latest debate.
