Writing for young has its rewards
Renowned author Richard Peck discusses his shift from young adult novels to a first adult work about the Titanic. He recalls teaching at Hunter College High School, meeting librarians in Long Beach, and visiting junior high groups across five states. He notes how youth reading declines, the need for engaging teens with real issues, and the race of characters being up to readers’ interpretation in The Ghost Belonged to Me.
