Reagan hails success of California vanity plate sales
Governor Ronald Reagan announced that California's personalized license plate program has raised 550000 dollars from 31000 plate sets, with 440000 earmarked as a first year goal. Officials said 310000 will fund the Air Resources Board to expand air monitoring, coordinate smog plans for 11 air basins, and regulate agricultural burning.

Women firefighters form first forest crew in Missoula
In Missoula Montana 20 women aged 16 to 34 trained with the Forest Service forming the first organized female firefighting crew. They learned to use pulaski tools chopped brush built firelines and fought a practice blaze under officer Bob Henderson. Dispatchers say readiness could extend to 24 hours and four hour notice. the true test will be on an actual fireline with real forest fire conditions.
