LBCC opens a six week driver education course for adults with July 1 start. Enrollment in Room 119 at 1305 E Pacific Coast Highway limited to 60, priority for license needs. Class runs four evenings weekly from 6 to 10, final two weeks 5 to 10, no charge.
Forecast calls for sunny days and clear nights with gusty afternoon winds. Interior valleys like Imperial and Coachella remain hot with highs near 95 to 105 and overnight lows around 60. Moon phases shown. coastal tides indicate two low and two high events with specific feet noted.
Charles E. Kennedy, former Paramount mayor and Paramount City Council member, was appointed to the Compton Junior College District board to fill Ernest McCracken’s term through July 1971. Kennedy, a plumbing contractor who moved to Paramount in 1935, succeeds McCracken who resigned for health reasons. Kennedy’s son Patrick serves in Vietnam and daughter Karen Lofitis is also noted. The district recently allowed trustees to be chosen from residency areas. The Orange County Heart Association will hold its annual meeting Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Santa Ana Elks clubhouse with Dr. Campbell Moses discussing cardiovascular disease control.
Ground breaking at 11 a.m. for the 1.7 million South Street project in Artesia and Cerritos. Supervisor Frank G. Bonelli presides at Artesia Park as the 3.5 mile road widens to four lanes from San Gabriel River to Carmenita Road. Copp Paving Co. holds the contract.
