EPA readies enforcement on water-polluters for July deadline
The EPA announces stepped-up enforcement targeting more than 300 industries and over 100 municipalities failing to meet the July 1 1977 cleanup deadline. Action may include cleanup schedules or lawsuits with penalties up to ten thousand dollars per day. Regional offices will prioritize large polluters and consider those missing the deadline through no fault of their own.
