Lobbying Marshals Stayed on County Payroll
Three municipal court marshals were detached from regular duties to lobby in Sacramento while remaining on the county payroll over six months. The charge came from Robert Mitchell of the Los Angeles County Citizens Economy and Efficiency Committee. Marshal Leslie R. Keays denied the allegation, noting only two marshals lobbied part time with weekends working. Mitchell criticized the push as financing a lobby to block a marshal sheriff merger that could save $1.5 million annually.
