Waves Sink Stocks to New Yearly Lows on Wall Street
In New York the Dow Jones industrial average fell 12.59 to 550.49, its lowest since late 1955, as widespread selling hit growth stocks and major issues. The AP and S&P averages also slid to 1962 lows while volume rose, with Polaroid, U S Steel and GM among the heaviest traded and several auto stocks retreating.
