Unbelievable Civil Defense Shelter Ends For Georgia Volunteers
Athens Georgia Civil Defense volunteers wrap two austere days in a simulated fallout shelter. About 669 participants endured heat 83 degrees, no furniture or running water, and biscuits and water while sleeping on the floor. They describe the experience as unforgettable and a test of cooperation across races. Thirty plus families and a cross section of ages took part. 81 left early and pay ranged from 25 to 45 dollars for the weekend.
