Sleight of hand with scraps yields a Mercer model
Kermit W. Annis, a Bakersfield masonry contractor, crafts miniature vehicles from scraps in a hobby workshop at 4709 Hazelbrook Ave. He builds a 1914 Mercer among many windup toys from throwaways, painting, tying strings, and welding, inspired by years of mining, travel, and family. His wife Eleanor shares the hobby, and the couple enjoys water sports and outdoor life with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
