Wings to be strengthened on C 5A transport
A 28 member panel led by MIT's Dr Raymond L Bisplinghoff urged more rigorous testing and wing strengthening for the C 5A jet transport after fatigue cracks found in static tests. Air Force Secretary Robert C Seamans Jr said price tag is about 54 million per plane and recommended continuing the program to avoid higher costs, with flying lifetime targeted at 10 years.
