Stars Flee Fire at Las Vegas Rancho Hotel
Las Vegas awoke to a predawn blaze at the Rancho Hotel with stars Betty Grable and Harry James fleeing the flames. Arson probe opened as 25 guests and staff escaped the 12 acre resort on El Rancho Drive. Fire damaged the main building including the Opera House theater and casino. Losses were estimated at several million with $427,000 cash found intact in a vault after the fire.
