Swedish girl to leave U.S. in labor probe case
A 16 year old Swedish girl involved in a California employment agency probe will be returned home. She appeared before Juvenile Court in Long Beach on a sex delinquent charge. Walter G. Danielson, Swedish consul, will arrange return passage. The probe, led by California labor officials, seeks to curb underage recruitment and aggressive agency practices. About 1300 to 1500 domestic workers are imported annually from Europe, with complaints of broken promises and poor screening. The Los Angeles agency owner defended limitations, while authorities push for agency license actions if violations are found.
