World War II submarine Roncador finds temporary Long Beach berth
The 329 foot USS Roncador, surplus since the war, rests at Naval Support Activity Long Beach Harbor awaiting a dignified use. The American Society of Military History plans to showcase it at Ports O' Call Village in San Pedro but faces funding limits to prepare below deck tours. If no buyer or group can repurpose the craft, it will be scrapped after 10 to 12 days at Berth 15 following a tow from Redondo Beach. The sub never fired a shot in combat and was earlier moved from King Harbor to Redondo Beach for tourist uses before officials ordered its removal.
