Governors see Nixon leading GOP race at governors conference
Oklahoma Governor Dewey F. Bartlett described Nixon as holding a commanding lead for the GOP nomination at the National Republican Governors Conference in Tulsa. Bartlett noted Nixon leads 17 to 5 in Oklahoma’s 22 delegate split and said Reagan could be a vice presidential option. He said Rockefeller also has some chance and emphasized unity over sharp ideological divides. Security was tight at the Camelot Inn as governors gathered after Kennedy’s funeral.
