Medics urge broader smog warning system in LA
The Los Angeles County Medical Association proposed a stronger medical smog warning system and a reinforced school warning program adding carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides to the alert list. The Air Pollution Control District studies the proposal and whether the county Board of Supervisors must act. The group approved the plan after months of study and debate, with the resolution announced Monday and available Thursday.

Los Angeles Ventura water plan cleared unanimously
The Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board approved an interim water quality plan for Santa Clara and Los Angeles River basins. It envisions hundreds of millions for sewer and treatment upgrades, plus hearings on alleged pollution by Oxnard Port Hueneme Las Virgenes MWD and Allied Chemical with possible $6,000 daily fines. A two year interim period ends with a final plan and sludge disposal by June 30 1972 unless a less harmful option is shown.
