California safety bill wins Assembly approval
The California Assembly passed a retooled industrial safety bill by a wide margin. Sponsored by Assemblyman Jack K. Fenton the measure adds felony charges for inflated safety orders, tightens inspections of high hazard industries, requires investigations of serious accidents and broad dissemination of safety notices to employers. The bill moves to the Senate with potential federal alignment and claimed state savings, though the Department of Industrial Relations estimates higher costs.
