CFWC honors club achievements at San Diego convention
More than 1,100 women attended the California Federation of Women's Clubs Dia mond Jubilee state convention in San Diego where awards were won by Los Cerritos District chairmen, clubs and individuals. District chairmen listed include Marguerite Phares for art, Tom Wills for drama, Ervine Short for beautification and environmental awareness, energy education, Iey High for international projects, Harold Tredway for status of women, and Darrell Kingdom for veterans affairs. Clubs honored include Norwalk Women's Club for citizenship and scholarship, La Mirada Ebell for leadership development and public speaking, and Artesia Cerritos Woman's Club for consumer concerns and environmental awareness. Other clubs recognized were Downey for health services and libraries, North Long Beach for health services, Lakewood for veterans affairs, and Los Altos for membership growth. Special presentations went to Downey and South Gate from the Mental Health Association, and Leslie Barlow of Artesia Cerritos received a FDA plaque for best consumer literature. Rita Sherrill of Bellflower won an essay award, and Becky Dobins of Bellflower won a sculpture award. The Opportunities Industrialization Center will sponsor a Spring Sing at Covenant Presbyterian Church at 3 p.m. Sunday.
