South Vietnamese camp attacked by North Vietnamese forces inflicting heavy losses in six months with 40 killed 67 wounded and 17 missing. B 52s bombed near the Laotian border as forces pursued the escaping attackers. Two U S advisers and one Australian wounded in the clash.
In Washington on Tuesday Republicans blocked a voting rights bill for Negroes and 18 year olds, while Democratic leaders moved to pass it next week and send it to Nixon. The measure would extend a five year safeguard for black Southerners and lower the voting age to 18 in all elections and races.
Peru officials warned that 2,500 of 20,000 residents in Yungay survived the great quake while nearby Caras and Huaylas Canyon towns faced total inundation from Lianganuco Lake overflow. Officials cautioned the death toll could reach near 30,000 as rescuers grappled with dust clouds reaching 18,000 feet hampering relief drops.
