Wallace's Wife Campaigns In California For Paralyzed Candidate
Mrs. Wallace travels to California to tape TV programs and boost her husband’s write-in presidential bid. Doctors report slight voluntary movement in Wallace’s toes, the first since he was wounded May 15, as plans hinge on infection risk and healing before any back surgery. Wallace aims for the Miami convention as the main goal while Calfiornia campaign appearances continue with other candidates’ spouses and figures like Warren Beatty participating.

McGovern harshly attacks tax policies and elderly aid
In a policy address McGovern assailed current priorities as misaligned and urged a 20 percent boost in Social Security. He cited seniors earning under minimal amounts and urged tax reform to fund health care and state relief, criticizing Nixon era incentives and corporate taxes while invoking a Dolphins anecdote. He was introduced by Barry Sullivan and praised by Kansas City Chiefs’ Bob Klein.

McGovern and Humphrey Trade Tax Proposals in California Push
McGovern campaigned in Long Beach and Fullerton urging 18 year olds to back his antiwar stance while lauding tax reform talks led by Mansfield and Mills. He denied seeking Humphrey or Muskie support before the California primary and said he will win on the first ballot. Humphrey attacked McGovern's $1,000 income supplement, calling it the politics of deception as he cautioned voters about tax loopholes and promised tax relief measures if elected. He pressed a tax loophole reduction plan in East Los Angeles and walked a Broadway handshaking tour in downtown Los Angeles.
