Rolling Hills Homes Saved as Residents Help Halt Fire
Flames swept the northeast slope of Rolling Hills threatening six homes before County Fire Department crews halted the blaze on Crest Road. Residents used garden hoses to douse embers as a strong wind fanned the flames, with a radar post nearby aiding the alert. Firefighters, five engines and two camps totaling about 60 men, fought the blaze for an hour, stopping it near the Conrad residence and nearby ice plant plants. A miltary police officer and residents aided, while borate bomber standby was considered.
