Flee Castro's Reds Refugee Children Find Haven Here
A refugee tale follows Gabriel Draper and his sister Ritz who escaped Cuba with their Jewish parents Harry and Maria Drapel. The family, once merchants in Havana, faced threats from a Cuban secret service and political oppression. Gabriel found refuge in Los Angeles at Vista Del Mar, while Rita joined his foster care process as their mother struggled with the risk to the children. Mrs. Rose Engel of Long Beach opened her home to Gabriel, later welcoming Rita as foster care progressed.
