Mystery airplane pulled from sea near Santa Barbara
Part of a light plane fuselage believed to be a Cessna 210 was hauled from 600 feet of water by a carpenteria fisherman after his net snagged it ten miles south of Santa Barbara. FAA investigators planned checks with Southern California airports to identify the craft. The wreck, about 7 by 7 feet, included a cockpit instrument panel and plexiglass, with no rust noted. Coast Guard removed the pieces, a helicopter searched for more, but nothing else was found.

Begin rejects PLO role in Mideast talks
Prime Minister Menahem Begin bluntly reaffirmed Israel will not include the Palestine Liberation Organization in any phase of Geneva peace talks. He called the PLO the implacable enemy of the Jewish people since the Nazis and said Palestinians not in the PLO could be represented by Jordan in Geneva. If Arab states refuse to attend without the PLO, Begin said he would skip Geneva and negotiate through a U.S. mediator. Henry Kissinger urged progress after Begin’s talks with Carter.
