Final Steps in Lakewood Annexation
Lakewood City Council began final steps to annex a 45 acre tract west of the city after a first reading on an annexation ordinance with no protests. The land north of Del Amo Boulevard and south of Market Street, from the city limits on the east to Cherry Avenue on the west, will host a housing tract and a small park. The council also considered a promotion group request to stage a September sky diving show at Lakewood Shopping Center, noting no local parachuting law exists and state and federal approval is needed. The county faces potential costs for maintenance and physician fees in a complex UCI medical center contract, with disputes over fee sharing and operating terms. a Superior Court judge ruled Dr. Ross M. Miller Jr. cannot serve as Compton city councilman and a school trustee simultaneously. The Orange County Medical Center will become the primary teaching facility for the UCI medical school.
