Former Harbor Ride Drops Slander Suit Against Ridings
M Dudley Hughes formerly of the Long Beach Harbor Department said he was dropping his $1.1 million slander suits against Commissioner Bud Ridings after Ridings issued an unconditional retraction. Hughes, 59, was dismissed in 1964 amid accusations over a board purchase matter and had appealed three actions while continuing to work as a petroleum consultant. Ridings apologized in writing, praising Hughes as a skilled engineer and expressing regret over the dismissal, hoping it aids Hughes in his future endeavors.
