Ecumenical Council debated in Catholic church circle in 1955

A Roman Catholic paper notes Pope John XXIII planned an ecumenical council to unite Christian forces, inviting observers from outside Catholicism while insiders would lead without voting rights. The piece cites Look magazine and editorials arguing for cautious, limited participation and renewed church unity amid Cold War tensions and anti Communist sentiment. It includes quotes from pastors and theologians about mission, denominational mergers, and the need for mutual respect and prayer.
