Two Offices Ruled Out by Court
A Los Angeles Superior Court judge ruled Dr. Ross M. Miller Jr. cannot serve as Compton city councilman and a school trustee simultaneously. Judge Ellsworth Meyer held one person may not hold two incompatible public offices at once, ordering Miller to vacate his school board seat. The case, brought by the attorney general at Warren R. Sales's urging, noted Miller abstained from votes on the school district and city over a disputed junior high site, but abstentions did not resolve the conflict.
