New York reports 12 mile extension of DMZ barrier strip
Washington sources say a 12 mile inland extension of the cleared DMZ barrier south of the demilitarized zone in South Vietnam is planned despite strong objections from top U.S. officers. The belt would feature barbed wire, mines, radar, infrared and other detectors to warn of intrusion and reduce infiltration, with potential for automatic weapons and artillery support.
