Visit to Cuba shows old and new in focus
Long Beach physician Dr. Jack Kent and his wife Macy Cavalier spent nine days in Havana, visiting hospitals, a technical school and the city, comparing pre and post revolution Cuba. He notes free medical care, 400 to 500 poly clinics, a high share of female doctors, ongoing construction, and improved sanitation, with life expectancy near US levels and a shift of hospital beds away from Havana.
