Witnesses Describe Barroom Slaying by Long Beach Man
Curtis W. Marsh of 427 E Fourth St faces murder and assault charges after a July 1 attack at the New Yorker Bar 42 Pine Ave that left Navy veteran Charles Henry Thomas dead. Prosecutor Robert Morrell said Marsh bought a six inch hunting knife minutes before the slaying. witnesses said Marsh seized the victim by the head and slit his throat as Thomas asked why.

A Long Beach Municipal Court judge set bail at 150000 for 37 year old Joseph A Gesualdo on charges of attempted murder and robbery in the June 3 Shanks Jewelry Store holdup. He will face a preliminary hearing Aug 2. Another suspect Roberto Palma remains at large. Mrs Helen Shaolis, 56, was shot in the throat and remains in critical condition. Detectives and the FBI identified Gesualdo in a Las Vegas pawnshop where he allegedly tried to pawn rings.
