Fortas reflects on post Supreme Court future plans

Fortas, speaking from Vermont, brushes off suggestions of immediate reentry into the legal world. He recalls Arnold, Fortas and Porter before his 1965 Supreme Court appointment and says the firm has talked to him, but he is focused on settling after leaving the court.

Johnson Learned of Thant Peace Efforts in 1966 Meeting

37 ove man Cousins, editor of the Saturday Review, said Johnson learned of Thant’s 1964 peace talks outline two years after it was delivered. Cousins reported Johnson met Thant in October 1966 to urge peace negotiations with North Vietnam. Thant said he hand wrote a peace letter to Ho in fall 1964 and Ho replied three weeks later agreeing to secret talks relayed to Adlai Stevenson.
