No Bus Pact Reached as Strike Deadline Looms

Union members had already voted to strike, rejecting a 40 cent hourly raise plan and other concessions. Plane crash near Hawthorne injuries two Portland men

Two Oregon men escaped serious injury when their twin engine plane struck a parked car while attempting a forced landing. Pilot William Rozell, 40, and passenger Albert Stevenson, 52, both of Portland, suffered minor cuts and bruises and were treated and released at Centinela Valley Community Hospital after the 5 p.m. crash at Menlo Avenue and Broadway near Hawthorne Municipal Airport.

Suspects Jailed in Four Killings Across Southland

A 48 year old woman Eloise Hurly was beaten to death in an Inglewood mobile home, shot as sixth victim in a wave of killings. Marlin Edward Brown 45 booked for Hurly murder. Gerard Trent Jr. 25 booked for the Wilshire District murders of Carolyn Stafford and her two daughters Julie and Carol Lyn. Trent worked at a sanitation firm after the killings. Police say no clear link yet among the attacks and motive remains under inquiry. Wanda Ryan and husband Jack allegedly forced their way into the Stafford residence prior to the discovery of the bodies.
