Christmas Island Nuclear Tests Ended and Johnston Planned
The Atomic Energy Commission said tests at Christmas Island ended. A new high altitude test is planned over Johnston Island in the Pacific near Hawaii. The Pacific series ran 26 shots, five near a million tons, with a large blast expected next week or so. The danger zone around Christmas Island will be removed by Friday morning.

Downey Set to Take Over Sheriff Post
James F. Downey will become undersheriff of the Los Angeles County Department on Monday, replacing Harold C. Marlowe who resigned for public relations. Downey, 50, has 26 years in the department and 8 years as executive assistant to Sheriff Patchess, and will start his 27th year on Aug. 1. He has spent 15 years in the detective division and served three years in World War II in the South Pacific.

Peace Corps trainees walk out after bar service refused
In Montgomery County Maryland a group of Peace Corps trainees, including several Black members, left a Country Corner Inn restaurant after Negro members were refused service at the bar.
