Justices Agree on Decision Unanimous ruling on foreign trial of GI Girard
Washington UP The Supreme Court unanimously upheld the administration’s plan to surrender GI William Girard to Japan for a manslaughter trial. The court said no constitutional bar and no law prevented foreign trials, and that Senate approval was effectively given. Critics urged Bow Resolution passage and a new inquiry. Girard, 21, Ottawa, Illinois, who declined U.S. legal aid, will be tried in Maebashi District Court on August 26. Defense will proceed with his chosen Japanese and Army lawyers.
