Oil Companies Pay Low Federal Taxes, Podell Charges
Rep Bertram Podell released figures showing 13 oil majors paid federal taxes at rates near 20 percent in 1968 and 21 percent in 1967 while a $4000 earner faced 22 percent. He singled out Sinclair Gulf Atlantic Richfield Standard Oil and others, calling the oil industry a fourth level of government and urging tax reform.
