Controversy over pulpit leads to court ruling
The Bishop of Long Island ordered Rev Melish to quit his pulpit and hand the church to a supply priest. Locks were changed and Melish resisted. On January 15, 1956 he reentered the church with another priest and conducted services until the replacement resigned. A court later named Rev Herman S Sidener the rightful pastor. Melish appeals and remains in the church rectory with his family.
