Mint unveils Bicentennial coins with new designs
The Mint begins distributing Bicentennial currency today featuring a 1776 1976 date. The half dollar bears Independence Hall on the obverse and John P. Kennedy on the reverse, while quarters show a colonial drummer and silver dollars a Liberty Bell. Washington and Eisenhower remain on certain reverses.

Bankers and public clash over banks safety and aid to economy
A Gallup poll and a bankers survey show the public largely views banks as not doing enough to help the economy while remaining split on safety. About 56 percent see banks as very safe, 44 percent doubt it. 31 percent think more banks fail now than five years ago, though FDIC has shielded depositors. Bank executives believe the public views banks as very safe at a higher rate.
