One-man submarine alert turns into debt-dragged tale
In New York Harbor during the Bicentennial events a coast guard beacon for a suspected one-man sub disrupter proved a hoax tied to a deadbeat bill. Retired Navy captain George Kittredge of Massachusetts said the alert arose from his pursuit of a Walton man who owed for a recreational sub he bought on installment. He described building subs through Kittredge Industries and planned to use them for Cape Cod and Lake Winnipesaukee trips.
