Eisenhower Distastes Some Art for Moscow Exhibition
President Eisenhower expressed a dim view of much of the art selected for the American National Exhibition in Moscow while affirming he would not censor the exhibit or reopen hearings on the artist roster. He noted 34 of 67 artists have alleged Communist ties and urged future jury reforms. He also commented that a painting portraying a U.S. general mockingly resembled a lampoon rather than art.
