European Communists reject Kremlin control at summit
In Berlin East and West Communist parties, led by Enrico Berlinguer and others including Tito, rejected Soviet domination and affirmed autonomous paths. A two day summit issued an unsigned document endorsing independence for all parties to chart their own course in world communism. Berlinguer dismissed any international body and urged open public debate among autonomous parties. Meanwhile in Winnipeg a derailment of the Super Continental injured about 25, with two Americans among those hospitalized.
