Todd Shipyards denies mass layoffs at San Pedro yard
Todd Shipyards spokesman said work has not stopped on the eight 90,000 deadweight ton tankers and construction will not begin for months. Subcontractors and suppliers were asked to suspend deliveries while talks with customers on price and delivery dates continue. Last week 100 to 200 workers were laid off from the 3500 workforce, a move attributed to a normal repair yard cycle rather than a halt in new construction.
